Typing problems could be joystick settings.

Sometimes that will happen on a real C64 if a joystick is being held in a particular direction. Try checking the CCS64 input settings and see if they're set to use a PC joystick. If so, but you don't have a joystick connected to your PC, that's probably the problem! If you do have a joystick connected, try using the Calibrate option in CCS64 to ensure that it's being read correctly... Or, just set the joystick emulation to read from the keyboard instead.
